Works of Mercy and The Sacrament of Reconciliation

We had the Sacrament of Penance or The Sacrament of Reconciliation today. (Review: Blest Are We book pages: 164-168 Chapter 14)

Order-of-Confession

As a class we said the Act of Contrition (p.14):

My God,

I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to wrong and failing to do good,
I have sin against you whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intended, with your help,
to do penance
to sin no more,
and avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In His name, my God have mercy.

The New Commandment and the Works of Mercy Pages 215-221 Chapter19

(In class,  we did a Works of Mercy relay race. Each team member took a Saint Patrick Bottled water and wrote one of the works of mercy down on the board. Then he /she would pass the bottle on to his/her teammate to write a work of mercy on the board. this would continue until all 7 of the works of mercy were on the board.)

The Corporal Works of Mercy

  • Feed the hungry;
  • Drink to the thirsty;
  • Clothe the naked;

Kingdom of Heaven-Communion of Saints

Gospel Mt 18:1-5, 10

The disciples approached Jesus and said,
“Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?”
He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,
“Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones,
for I say to you that their angels in heaven
always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”

Guardian Angel Prayer
Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

Jesus preaches the Kingdom of God…Who is the Kingdom of God?

The Communion of Saints

  • Saints are those people whose love for God is stronger than their love for anyone or anything else.
  • The Church is the Communion of Saints.
  • The Church is the Body of Christ.

Blest Are They Lyrics

1. Blest are they, the poor in spirit; theirs is the
kingdom of God. Blest are they, full of sorrow; they
shall be consoled.

Rejoice, and be glad! Blessed are you, holy are
you! Rejoice and be glad! Yours is the kingdom of God!

2. Blest are they, the lowly ones: they shall inherit the
earth. Blest are they, who hunger and thirst; they shall
have their fill.

Rejoice, and be glad! Blessed are you, holy are
you! Rejoice and be glad! Yours is the kingdom of God!

3. Blest are they, who show mercy; mercy shall be theirs.
Blest are they, the pure of heart; they shall see God!

Rejoice, and be glad! Blessed are you, holy are
you! Rejoice and be glad! Yours is the kingdom of God!

4. Blest are they, who seek peace; they are the children
of God. Blest are they who suffer in faith; the glory of
God is theirs.

Rejoice, and be glad! Blessed are you, holy are
you! Rejoice and be glad! Yours is the kingdom of God!

5. Blest are you, who suffer hate, all because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, yours is the kingdom of God; shine
for all to see.

Rejoice, and be glad! Blessed are you, holy are
you! Rejoice and be glad! Yours is the kingdom of God!
