God’s not dead!

Apostles Creed:

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;

Daniel and the Lion’s Den (Daniel Chapter 6)

1And Darius the Mede^* succeeded to the kingdom at the age of sixty-two.

2Darius decided to appoint over his entire kingdom one hundred and twenty satraps.

3These were accountable to three ministers, one of whom was Daniel; the satraps reported to them, so that the king should suffer no loss.

4Daniel outshone all the ministers and satraps because an extraordinary spirit was in him, and the king considered setting him over the entire kingdom.

5Then the ministers and satraps tried to find grounds for accusation against Daniel regarding the kingdom. But they could not accuse him of any corruption. Because he was trustworthy, no fault or corruption was to be found in him.

6Then these men said to themselves, “We shall find no grounds for accusation against this Daniel except in connection with the law of his God.”

7So these ministers and satraps stormed in to the king and said to him, “King Darius, live forever!

8 All the ministers of the kingdom, the prefects, satraps, counselors, and governors agree that the following prohibition ought to be put in force by royal decree: for thirty days, whoever makes a petition to anyone, divine or human, except to you, O king, shall be thrown into a den of lions.

9Now, O king, let the prohibition be issued over your signature, immutable and irrevocable^* according to the law of the Medes and Persians.”

10So King Darius signed the prohibition into law.

11Even after Daniel heard that this law had been signed, he continued his custom of going home to kneel in prayer and give thanks to his God in the upper chamber three times a day, with the windows open toward Jerusalem.

12So these men stormed in and found Daniel praying and pleading before his God.

13Then they went to remind the king about the prohibition: “Did you not sign a decree, O king, that for thirty days, whoever makes a petition to anyone, divine or human, except to you, O king, shall be cast into a den of lions?” The king answered them, “The decree is absolute, irrevocable under the law of the Medes and Persians.”

14To this they replied, “Daniel, one of the Jewish exiles, has paid no attention to you, O king, or to the prohibition you signed; three times a day he offers his prayer.”

15The king was deeply grieved at this news and he made up his mind to save Daniel; he worked till sunset to rescue him.

16But these men pressed the king. “Keep in mind, O king,” they said, “that under the law of the Medes and Persians every royal prohibition or decree is irrevocable.”

17So the king ordered Daniel to be brought and cast into the lions’ den. To Daniel he said, “Your God, whom you serve so constantly, must save you.”

18To forestall any tampering, the king sealed with his own ring and the rings of the lords the stone that had been brought to block the opening of the den.

19Then the king returned to his palace for the night; he refused to eat and he dismissed the entertainers. Since sleep was impossible for him,

20the king rose very early the next morning and hastened to the lions’ den.

21As he drew near, he cried out to Daniel sorrowfully, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God whom you serve so constantly been able to save you from the lions?”

22Daniel answered the king: “O king, live forever!

23My God sent his angel and closed the lions’ mouths so that they have not hurt me. For I have been found innocent before him; neither have I done you any harm, O king!”

24This gave the king great joy. At his order Daniel was brought up from the den; he was found to be unharmed because he trusted in his God.

25The king then ordered the men who had accused Daniel, along with their children and their wives, to be cast into the lions’ den. Before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.

26Then King Darius wrote to the nations and peoples of every language, wherever they dwell on the earth: “May your peace abound!

27I decree that throughout my royal domain the God of Daniel is to be reverenced and feared:

“For he is the living God, enduring forever,

whose kingdom shall not be destroyed,

whose dominion shall be without end,

28A savior and deliverer,

working signs and wonders in heaven and on earth,

who saved Daniel from the lions’ power.”

29So Daniel fared well during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Resurrection and Ascension Chapter 10 (p.103-112) The purple Mystery of God book.

Hope that our lives are not just ended at our death but continue with in God’s Love in Heaven.

Jesus returns to Heaven p.106. So he could bring us up to him.

1 Thes. 4:13-18 (Hope for the Christian Dead).

13We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep.

15Indeed, we tell you this, on the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not precede those who have fallen asleep.

16For the Lord himself, with a word of command, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

17Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the Lord.

18Therefore, console one another with these words.

John 14:1-8

1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.

2In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.

4Where [I] am going you know the way.”

5Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?”

6Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth* and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

7If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

8Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

10Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.

11Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves.

12Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.

13And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.

Chapter 8 (p.83-92) The Suffering Servant. The purple Mystery of God book.

Book of Isaiah chapters 56-66: (servant of YHWH) 4 songs/poems. Last song is “The Sinless Servant” p 86-87. Jews would have been very familiar of the prophecy of Isaiah. The prophecy was the fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

God made a plan for redemption after the fall of Adam through Jesus. Jesus’s cross was an expiation* for the broken relation between God and Man (Our sins). *the act of extinguishing the guilt incurred by something p.96, 97, 98.

We will learn about the Passover. The Lamb is the sacrifice for the Passover meal. The passover meal allows the Jewish Hebrews to be free.

Jesus celebrated the last supper during the Feast of the Passover. We call Jesus the “Lamb of God.” Is Jesus the sacrifice for our sins? Does Jesus allow us to be free? Free from what?

During Mass we celebrate the Eucharist. The unleavened bread that is offered up. In the Mass there are many prayers and ceremonies that are from the Jewish Passover meal .

On March 17, Catholics celebrate St. Patrick, the fifth century bishop and patron of Ireland, whose life of holiness set the example for many of the Church’s future saints.

St. Patrick is said to have been born around 389 AD in Britain. Captured by Irish raiders when he was about 16, St. Patrick was taken as a slave to Ireland where he lived for six years as a shepherd before escaping and returning to his home.

At home, he studied the Christian faith at monastic settlements in Italy and in what is now modern-day France. He was ordained a deacon by the Bishop of Auxerre, France around the year 418 AD and ordained a bishop in 432 AD.

It was around this time when that he was assigned to minister to the small, Christian communities in Ireland who lacked a central authority and were isolated from one another.

When St. Patrick returned to Ireland, he was able to use his knowledge of Irish culture that he gained during his years of captivity. Using the traditions and symbols of the Celtic people, he explained Christianity in a way that made sense to the Irish and was thus very successful in converting the natives.

The shamrock, which St. Patrick used to explain the Holy Trinity, is a symbol that has become synonymous with Irish Catholic culture.

Although St. Patrick’s Day is widely known and celebrated every March the world over, various folklore and legend that surround the saint can make it difficult to determine fact from fiction.

Legends falsely site him as the man who drove away snakes during his ministry despite the climate and location of Ireland, which have never allowed snakes to inhabit the area.

St. Patrick is most revered not for what he drove away from Ireland, but flor what he brought, and the foundation he built for the generations of Christians who followed him.

Although not the first missionary to the country, he is widely regarded as the most successful. The life of sacrifice, prayer and fasting has laid the foundation for the many saints that the small island was home to following his missionary work.

To this day, he continues to be revered as one of the most beloved Saints of Ireland.

In March of 2011, the Irish bishops’ conference marked their patron’s feast by remembering him as “pioneer in an inhospitable climate.”

As the Church in Ireland faces her own recent difficulties following clerical scandals, comfort can be found in the plight of St. Patrick, the bishops said.

They quoted The Confession of St. Patrick, which reads: “May it never befall me to be separated by my God from his people whom he has won in this most remote land. I pray God that he gives me perseverance, and that he will deign that I should be a faithful witness for his sake right up to the time of my passing.”

Offering Sacrifice: an act of offering to God something precious, Such as animal

As a tribute to God, a burnt offering was entirely burnt on the altar, symbolizing total commitment or surrender to God. This is in contrast to other forms of sacrifice (entitled zevach or zevach shelamim), which was partly burnt and most of it eaten in communion at a sacrificial meal.

Jesus is our communion, he is the sacrifice on the cross. See in the Old Testament, how Jesus fulfilled the offering for sin

• You must make “your offering” (Leviticus 1:2), meaning you can’t offer something that belongs to someone else.
• You must offer an animal that is a “male without blemish” (v. 3).
• You must make the offering of your “own voluntary will” (v. 3).
• You must first bring your offering to “the door of the tabernacle,” which tabernacle represents the place where God dwells (v. 3).
• You must put your hand on the head of the sacrificial animal and then kill it yourself
• The priests lay the “head,” “fat,” “inward” organs, and the “legs” on the altar (v. 8–9).

Jesus rises Lazarus from the dead.

The raising of Lazarus, the longest continuous narrative in John outside of the passion account, is the climax of the signs. It leads directly to the decision of the Sanhedrin to kill Jesus. The theme of life predominates. Lazarus is a token of the real life that Jesus dead and raised will give to all who believe in him. This story’s irony is found in the fact that Jesus’ gift of life leads to his own death.

Baptism in our Church:

Holy Water (Symbol of the Holy Spirit)is kept on the left and poured over the catechumenate (person to be baptized) into the basin on the right. The center drain leads right to the ground so the holy water will not be dumped into the septic. The baptized person receives a Candle–“Receive the Light of Christ” and puts on a White Garment–“Putting on Christ”

Jesus is grown up now. John the Baptist(Jesus’s Cousin) is out baptizing people in the Jordon River. Jesus is baptized. Mark 1:13

The people were filled with expectation,
and all were asking in their hearts
